Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)

The humorous saying “good manners when producing” conveys its meaning fairly well. The reason to introduce a general guideline on manufacturing practice was the intention to internationally determine generally recognized methods of good manufacturing to ensure quality during the whole cycle. Since then, the EU has passed its own guideline (EG-CMP). It consists of a binding guideline and a recommended part. GMP and its related guidelines cover, among others, the following topics:

  • Duties of care
  • Staff training
  • Premises
  • Separation of manufacturing, packing and storage
  • Audits
  • Labeling
  • Hygiene, in particular microbial contamination
  • Quality of materials
  • Regulations on self-inspection and on audit (External supervision)
  • In process control
  • Validation
  • Quality control
